Okay, it's a long story but I'm going to skip right to the point. My natural hair is an EXTREMELY dark brown, almost black. My hair had like, turned orange in an experience where it was supposed to be highlighted.. and when I turned it back my father got the color Auburn instead of.. well, a dark brown.
So now I have auburn hair with my practically black roots taking up the entire top of my head. It looks ridiculous. If I dye it black or really dark brown, will the color I already have mix with the dye, therefore creating a color I definitely do not want?
I dyed my hair in November.
Hair Dye Question!?
if you use a dark brown dye it will cover any color hair that is lighter than the color itself. So your auburn shouldn't show through. And stop dying it after that for a while. Your hair is going to be fried
Hair Dye Question!?
Dark brown dye will mix with the Auburn color you already have in your hair, and you'll ended up with dark brown roots and medium brown tips. I would do black, because it is dark enough to cover the auburn. Over time, the color will gradually fade, and your natural hair will seap through. The Auburn color may also seap through, but it won't be strong enough to notice. It will probably just look like highlights.
I've tried Loreal, Clairol and Garnier, and I find that Garnier is the best brand. The smell is not too strong, and your hair doesn't end up feeling dry when you wash it for the first time. I found that it is more gentle to my hair, but just as effective if not better, than the other brands.
Side tip: If your hair is semi-think and is past your shoulders, make sure you use TWO bottles of color so that your whole head gets dyed evenly.
Good luck!
Hair Dye Question!?
If you dyed your hair back in November then it is definitally ok to dye again. But I really suggest going to a hair salon. If they mess up or it doesnt turn out the way you want it, they have to fix it before you leave, and with their hair dye it won't ruin your hair. If you try another box hair dye and mess up and then go to the salon, there is no telling how much you will have to pay because the hair stylist will not know how bad it is until they've been messing around with it.
But none the less... what color do you want your hair? You mentioned you had dark brunette hair, and you originally wanted highlights. If you dye it dark brown along with the auburn it should just go dark brown, but get a neutral brown or an ash brown because you already have red in your hair... u dont want to add more red to it by choosing a warm brown. ash has green in it so it will cover up the red.
Now for the highlights, it depends how much you want. the whole top of your head or the streaks... either way, seriously go to the hair dresser for this one. Ive done both at home, and they so do not come out like they do in the hair salon. If you are just going for streaks.. baby fine highlights to add some depth, its cheap at the hair salon.
If you insist on using a box hair dye for this, be careful. Your hair will now be a dark brunette so if you go lighter chances are it will turn a funny orange color. When it comes to hair color it is always easier to go darker then it is lighter. When you do your streaks you can just do them and let them sit, or do them with tin foil like the hair salon uses. If you do them with tin foil theres a special way to fold it. I believe you cut a rectangle pieces and fold the bottom up and then each side in. Also, putting a plastic bag over your hair and using a hair dryer set high lightens your color faster. I dont think it would be a good idea to use the hair dryer if your using the tin foil though.
Garnier rocks, do not use Nice'n'Easy. It's rough on your hair, and it has alot of red in it, which you do not need.
Get a good cut, shorter hair is coming in style. And deep condition your hair.. only at the ends.
