Curling hair with hot rollers?

My hair is naturally very coarse and frizzy. I straighten it most of the time. But I am going to a wedding next month and want to try experimenting with hot rollers and maybe having some big, soft curls.

But if I curl what is my natural hair, I feel like the curls will be all coarse and ratty, not sleek and shiny. Should I straighten my hair first and then curl it? Or will the curls not hold at all once my hair has been straightened? (in addition to a flatiron, I also use anti-frizz serum). Any tips are appreciated!

I have naturally curly hair and I use both hot rollers and a large curling iron when I want big soft curls. With my hair, the hot rollers seem to take some of the frizz out, so I use them first, brush it and smooth it out, then use the curling iron to put curls back in. It's time consuming and more trouble than I would go to on a daily basis, but for special occasions it looks nice. Experiment a little and see what works best for you.

my best friend has really ratty, tight curls. she uses a big barrel curling iron on her hair and gets loose soft curls. she has tried hot rollers before and had bad results; you don't have as much control over hot rollers as you do over a curling iron.

since you have some time why not experiment and see what works..everyone's hair is different

maybe you should try a chemical relaxer to soften the texture and give you more styling options. it will be easier to maybe wet set your hair for tighter curls or use hot rollers or curlers to get the softer curls you want. remember to use a setting lotion and/or hair spray to help keep the curls in tact.

I would straighten it, use anit-frizz, then use a wet set liquid similar to holding spray and those long curlers that can bend and twist. Those are great when trying to do spiral curls. Usually they can be found at Sally's or small independent beauty supply stores. Good luck!

I have the same problem don't use hot rollers your hair will curl but it will end up looking like a birds nest. Try straightening your hair and then curling it with a 1 INCH CURLING IRON. If you have the time try doing this every day so your hair will get use to the heat of the curling iron. This will train your hair to go the way you want it over time and you will have your big soft curls like you want.

if u use frida anti frizz on your hair that would really work also try to use those shampoos that say for sleek and shiny like (garnier) hair that will smooth your hair, but id recommend putting the anti frizz first and some shiny serum on ur hair and then put the hot rollers, dont try straightinent first because the curls wont stay cuz the hair has already been flattened

If you're using hot rollers or very large Velcro curlers you could definitely straighten your hair first and it wouldn't effect the curl. Here are some step by step tips
